Those who are overweight or obese, with exceedingly rare exceptions, do not continue to gain weight year in and year out. Rather, they gain weight over long periods of time and then stabilize at a weight that is higher than ideal, remaining there for a long period of time, if not indefinitely. Why, as Bennett asked,is energy balance achieved at a particular level of fat storage and not some other? This is another question that any reasonable hypothesis of obesity must address. In 1940, the Northwestern University endocrinologist Hugo Rony described the problem in a way that brings to mind Hirschs comment of fifty years later: An obese person who maintains his weight at 300 pounds indefinitely, is in caloric equilibrium the same as any person of normal weight. The conception that his obesity is due to positive caloric balance might be useful in explaining how he reached this excessive weight, but cannot inform us why he maintains it, why he resists attempts to reduce it to normal, why he tends to regain it after successful reduction. Day Five

“And God said, ‘Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky.’ So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them and said, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.’ And there was evening, and there was morning – the fifth day.” Genesis 1:20-23.

Throughout the Bible the Gentiles are likened to birds and fish. To the Jews, we were the unclean animals. We were the ones into whose homes a devout Jew could not enter. And no devout Jew would allow a Gentile to enter his house.

This all changed when God lowered a sheet filled with unclean birds and reptiles and told Peter to kill and eat. Peter was aghast, but the Lord continued and told Peter to never call impure anything that God had made clean. This paved the way for Peter to go to the house of Cornelius where the Spirit came on the Gentiles, just as He had on the Jews at Pentecost.

The fifth millennium was the spread of the good news to all of us. The Messiah was the glory of Israel, but He was also a light to lighten the gentiles. For that thousand years plus, the wonderful news of Jesus has been covering the earth.
