April 2012

Dear Friends and loved ones,

God bless you all and thank you so very much for all the prayers and support for our newest grandbaby, Andrew James Shrum, and especially for Sarah. Sarah still needs prayer for physical recovery and strength after losing so much blood after delivery. Andrew’s health is great. There was an initial concern over him losing weight and possibly needing surgery. It appears Sarah’s health was affecting him as she is nursing and needs to get her blood built back up. Andrew has grown quite a bit and Sarah is learning to function without a lot of sleep. She said, “Thank you so much for all your prayers for Mommy and Baby. They are greatly appreciated.”

Personal update: On Thursday April 5, while walking home in the evening, I stepped on the edge of the sidewalk and went down in the dark. I thought I was fine, but the next night I awoke with terrible pains in my right elbow and drove myself to the Emergency Room. Betty was staying at Sarah’s and helping with Andrew.

I had a radial head fracture, type 1, which means the bones were not displaced and all I needed was a sling of sorts that immobilized the arm. The doctor said to see a bone doctor soon. Instead, I went to Mexico on a mission trip with Rick Hohn and Mark Fletcher. It was wonderful and extremely fruitful as always.

Last Sunday, the 15th, we went to Avenue Community Church in Ventura. Mark Steffy, long time dear friend and associate, is the Senior Pastor of this thriving and loving fellowship. I was able to preach, but with only one arm, which was difficult.

On Monday I saw my regular doctor and we went over the x-rays. It is a compression fracture on my right elbow. The head of the radius fractured and was compressed over the bone. Everything was in place (I believe God healed it from all the prayers) and I have limited use of the arm now.

It is very clear to me that the enemy of our souls will try any way he can to keep us from the assignments the Lord gives us. He is a defeated snake spirit and he does not fight fair. There are two wrong responses we can make to our enemy’s tactics.

The first mistake is to turn inward with recriminations and condemnation. “What did I do wrong to open the door for this mishap?” It is very possible that we did open some kind of door, but the only one to discuss this with is our Father, and He is not open to recriminations or condemnation. Those do not exist for us any more. If we need to learn a lesson and close certain doors, Father will let us know. Satan can go to hell where he belongs. He is to be bound during this seventh millennium, and we indeed join with the strong angel in binding him now.

The next mistake is to let the illegitimate one win and keep us from serving God. This lesson is made abundantly clear when traveling with Rick Hohn. If you are not familiar with Rick, check out his web site  NOTHING keeps him from serving God with EVERYTHING he is and has. Rick is a tremendous inspiration to me and all who are touched by God through him.

I was reading this morning in 2 Cor. 4:11 and 16 – 21- “For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that his life may be revealed in our mortal body.” “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

In this transition time Satan’s desperation is heightened. He will do anything to derail us from representing Jesus. He knows he is defeated. But, if he can keep us sidelined, he gets some satisfaction. Don’t give him any satisfaction.       Give our Father the satisfaction of seeing you more fully conformed to the image of Jesus, and the joy of seeing Jesus’ Passion bearing more fruit through you.

I hope to do the closing blessing of the newsletters through a very short video clip. God-willing this will be a regular part of future newsletters.

Love in Christ,

Frank Smith
